Apex Mountain Resort hosts Toyo Canadian Selections 2016
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 13, 2016
Apex Mountain Resort welcomes the Toyo Canadian Selections Mogul event this Thursday, Dec. 15th to Sunday, Dec. 18th.
Apex Mountain Resort, The Apex Freestyle Club and the Canadian Freestyle Ski Association are pleased announce the upcoming event has been filled with the top 65 mogul athletes from across Canada and 19 international positions have been filled from Japan, Korea, Australia and Great Britain.
The competition will take place on Kristi’s Run which has been stated by World Cup coaches as the best course they have seen on the World Cup circuit. This is due to the constant 26 degree pitch over the 220 m course. James Shalman, General Manager of Apex Mountain Resort states “We held two World Cup mogul events in 2006 and 2007 with the 2007 event being the final stop on the World Cup Tour. We have had numerous coaches comment to us since then that this course is the best course they have seen on the World Cup circuit. There was a lot of work that went in to building the course, blasting rock and re-contouring the terrain to make it perfect. From the work that went in to hosting those events we now have built a legacy and a reputation of having one of the best mogul courses in the World. This year we have had the following teams travel to train at Apex before they start the competition circuit. Nagano, Japan; Sapporo, Japan; Killington Mountain School, Vermont; Holimont Flight, New York; Wasatch, Utah; Stratton, Vermont; Whistler Mogul Team; Steamboat, Colorado; Vail, Colorado; Carrabasset Valley Academy, Maine; Park City, Utah (75 athletes); Quebec Team; Ontario Team; Central Alberta Ski Club; Alberta Team; BC Team; U.S.A Ski Team; Canadian Development Team”.
The Athletes will be judged on speed, air and their turns. There are two jumps on the course, athletes will be doing aerial maneuvers such as 720’s, D Spins (off axis, inverted rotations), and a back full, which is a back flip with 360 degree rotation and landing back in the moguls.
Apex Mountain Resort is looking forward to the event “with a current snow base of 107 cm’s with more snow in the forecast for Thursday and the resort opening all runs and all lifts on Friday the timing could not be better to show off how great the conditions at Apex are right now”, comments James Shalman.
We would like to invite people to come up and watch the action, it’s an easy 5 minute walk from the village and it is a free event to watch. It is not often you will get to see such talent up close. Training days are Thursday and Friday with competition days on Saturday and Sunday.
Apex Mountain Resort will also be hosting other mogul events this season.
